Comparison of anti-VEGF therapies on fibrovascular pigment epithelial detachments in age-related macular degeneration

Abstract: There was a significant reduction in subfoveal PED height for aflibercept and bevacizumab compared with baseline. A direct comparison of drugs demonstrated a beneficial reduction of PED height, albeit inconsistently, favouring aflibercept. There were no differences in visual acuity across the groups at any time point.

“…presented that the mean decrease of central macular thickness was 78.3 ± 113.9 μm in the regular treated group and 75.3 ± 126.1 μm in irregular treated group. These results were comparable to our results (51.9 ± 58.2 μm) 12, 14, 15…”

“…En-phase OCTA shows the CNV, which in this case demonstrates signs of maturity (prominent trunk vessels, pruning). This case was considered a ' 'silent CNV' ' due to the absence of exudative signs throughout follow-up aflibercept [63]. At 1 year, there was no statistically significant VA change in either group.…”

“…Nevertheless, SD-OCT is a key element in detecting recurrences, and treatment decisions are frequently based solely on this noninvasive imaging method [ 7 9 ]. Classically, recurrences of CNV are defined on SD-OCT by a myriad of signs, ranging from subretinal or intraretinal fluid, subretinal hyperreflective material, or changes in the pigment epithelial detachment's height [ 7 11 ].…”
