“…19 To mount the physical dental casts made by CAD-CAM technology, the facial (buccal) surfaces of the maxillary and mandibular teeth are scanned in maximum intercuspation (MIP); This technique is used instead of using a physical occlusal registration material, thus the CAD-CAM-generated dental casts can be mounted by using a best-fit alignment algorithm without any physical interocclusal record. 25 Other studies have focused on comparing conventional and virtual occlusal records.…”

“…1, 25, 26 and 27 Solaberrieta et al 25 analyzed the accuracy of contacts between sets of digitized casts with 3 types of software, showing that virtual occlusion is more accurate than physical methods; the mean (standard deviation) accuracy of the virtual casts was 69 (11) μm. Maruyama et al 26 also showed virtual articulation methods created more exact contact points during excursive movements of articulated digital casts.…”

“…The whole scanned image was made by combining the scans of the two dentures with an occlusal scan using a subsequent inherent image matching algorithm in the scanning software. The digital occlusal registration using an occlusal scan has been reported to be more accurate than a traditional physical occlusal record 19 . Since the scans of the maxillary and mandibular dentures were registered in an accurate interarch relationship and exported with the same 3D coordinates, additional image matching was not needed for registering each dental arch image in the computer design software.…”

“…Studies comparing virtual and conventional transfer methods revealed promising results on the accuracy of virtual articulators to locate virtual casts at the exact position. Patient comfort was also increased with virtual articulator transferring methods . However, research is ongoing about the virtual articulators, and some CAD/CAM systems do not have virtual articulator software to simulate jaw movements.…”
