Providing quality of service (QoS) in wireless communication networks has become an important consideration for supporting variety of applications. IEEE 802.16 based WiMAX is the most promising technology for broadband wireless access with best QoS features for tripe play (voice, video and data) service users. Unlike wired networks, QoS support is difficult in wireless networks due to variable and unpredictable nature of wireless channels. In transmission of voice and video main issue involves allocation of available resources among the users to meet QoS criteria such as delay, jitter and throughput requirements to maximize goodput, to minimize power consumption while keeping feasible algorithm flexibility and ensuring system scalability. WiMAX assures guaranteed QoS by including several mechanisms at the MAC layer such as admission control and scheduling. Packet scheduling is a process of resolving contention for bandwidth which determines allocation of bandwidth among users and their transmission order. Various approaches for classification of scheduling algorithms in WiMAX have appeared in literature as homogeneous, hybrid and opportunistic scheduling algorithms. The paper consolidates the parameters and performance metrics that need to be considered in developing a scheduler. The paper surveys recently proposed scheduling algorithms, their shortcomings, assumptions, suitability and improvement issues associated with these uplink scheduling algorithms.

Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec is one of the codecs which is used for making voice calls. It helps to connect people who are scattered in various geographical areas. It adjusts its bit-rate according to the user's channel conditions. It plays a vital role in providing an improved speech quality of voice connection in Long Term Evolution (LTE). There are some constraints which need to be addressed in providing this service profitably. Quality of Service (QoS) is the dominant mechanism which determines the quality of the speech in communication. On several occasions, number of users are trying to access the same channel simultaneously by standing in a particular region for a longer period of time. It refers to Multiuser channel sharing problem which leads to resource loss very often. The main aim of this paper is to develop a novel RSA-QoS scheduling algorithm for reducing the Resource Loss Ratio. Eventually, it increases the throughput.The simulation result shows that the RSA-QoS increases the number of users for accessing the resources better than the existing algorithms in terms of resource loss and throughput. Ultimately, it enhances the QoS in Mobile Networks.

Enhancement of network performance is a big challenge today for the emerging technology based on IEEE 802.16. Wireless technology is an alternate solution to wired technology. Network availability all the way is an important challenge in day-to-day life. Due to the huge population, the availability of the network is again a big challenge. Also, it becomes more difficult to capture the network if considering rural areas, hilly, lakes, and seashores today. This work proposed relay stations in WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) networks along with various bandwidth allocation algorithms to increase the signal strength over the long distance using retransmission of the original signal by relay station and extend the coverage with a higher data rate and higher user capacity. The availability of WiMAX networks for the channel bandwidth assignment to users for data and service is very important in today's scenario. This paper focuses on evaluating the performance of bandwidth allocation algorithms in light WiMAX networks with and without relay stations. The performance evaluation is done by increasing the number of nodes with various bandwidth allocation techniques with and without relay stations. In this work the round robin and strict priority algorithms are used for channel bandwidth allocation in a light WiMAX network and performance is analyzed through throughput, goodput, and packet drop rate, which will help to implement and configure the suggested optimal parameters in the production environment. This work enhanced the throughput and goodput and reduce the dropout rate, and the user capacity also increased.
