Comparison between sol-gel, coprecipitation and wet mixing synthesis of ZnAl2O4

Abstract: Abstract. ZnA1204 was prepared by hydrolyzing a mixture of aluminum alkoxide with zinc nitrate dissolved in hexylene glycol and calcining at 800~ The results are compared with those obtained by wet mixing and coprecipitation. The sol-gel method produces solids whose surface areas and pore volumes are 100% larger and with a more homogeneous pore size distribution.

“…Several thermal features take place during the heating of the gel. As anticipated the variation of the mass of the compound with temperature indicates slow weight loss up to 80°C due to the release of interlayer water [4,19]. An event at around 150-200°C, is attributed to the expulsion of hydrated water [4,19,20].…”

An event at around 150-200°C, is attributed to the expulsion of hydrated water [4,19,20]. The last event at around 300-400°C is attributed to the elimination of organic compounds and starting of crystallization process and the formation of single phase ZnAl 2 O 4 [4,19].…”

“…35 The NMR experiments were performed in a quantitative manner, revealing that all aluminium cations are detected and that shielding of the bulk cations did not occur. This implies that the inversion is occurring in the bulk and is not an artefact of surface aluminium cations, since they form only a minor fraction of all the aluminium cations.…”

“…Various substitutions may be incorporated into it, so adequate selection of substituting ion and appropriate chemical composition are of the utmost importance in order to achieve desired properties of material, including its catalytic performances. Synthesis method is also a significant factor influencing the properties of the obtained material such as crystallite size, specific surface area or porosity [1][2][3].…”
