Mycofoam is a biocomposite composed of mycelial filaments that bind to the host substrate, which can replace polystyrene. This research aims to determine the most appropriate formulation of the growing medium and mushroom to be used in mycofoam products based on some parameters. Composition is one of the main factors for selecting the most appropriate mycofoam to replace polystyrene. On the other hand, the quality of mycofoam can be assessed through its strength and water resistance. The mushroom mycelium used in this study came from Pleurotus ostreatus and Lentinula edodes. Besides, the growing medium formulation comprises five different compositions, each containing different proportions of sawdust and bagasse. This research was composed of preparation of growing medium, spawn inoculation, molding, heating, testing, and data analysis. Based on the results, the combination of 100 percent sawdust and L. edodes was the most appropriate choice compared to other formulations based on strength and appearance. The results of the water absorption test showed that all mycofoam formulations were not resistant to water, bio-based coating can be used to overcome this problem.

Coastal area which affected by floods and tides has problems about safety and comfortable environment. The world of floating construction has introduced substructure foundations made from expanded polystyrene system (EPS) with a lightweight concrete cover. The styrofoam platform must meet the buoyancy, stability and center height test requirements. The research aims to analyze the magnitude of the buoyant force (Fa) against downward force due to the load weight on platform. The platform is strong and stable when upward force (Fa) is greater than total structure weight (G). The object will float if buoyant force (Fa) is greater than the gravitational force (g). The balance is stable if center of object gravity (Bo) is below the center of buoyancy (Ao), otherwise it will be in arbitrary balance. The height of centrum can be determined m > 0, means the object is stable. The research results show that 6.12x5.12x0.68m Styrofoam platform with a buoyancy force of 18,246.6 kg is able to withstand an additional load of 3647.62 kg with an SF value of 2.59. It means there is a linear relationship between magnitude of loading value and sinking height of Styrofoam platform. The safety factor value decreases as the sinking height of platform increases. The stability value of Fa/G is 3.01>1.2. The metacentrum’s height is 16.531 > 0, so the platform with a lightweight concrete cover is declared stable and safe to use.

Semarang as a city located in the coastal area is dealing with the some problems, such as rising sea level, land subsidence, scarcity of land and illegal settlers. In order to deal with rising sea level, a polder system is developed in Kemijen (northern of Semarang). This polder system depends on dredging, a pumping station and retention basins to store water. To make the polder function well and reduce the floods, the existing retention basins should be expanded. Therefore, people who are living at the borders of these basins should be relocated or floating houses could be a solution.. This study aims to determine the acceptance of the Kemijen inhabitants towards floating houses as alternative residential in coastal areas. Data collecting in this study were obtained through interviews with the Kemijen residents and stakeholders. The data then processed by SWOT analysis. Based on the research result, it can be concluded that the social acceptance of the inhabitants is quite low, but there is potential because they see positive elements in a floating house. According to the survey most inhabitants do have insufficient income to pay for a floating house. Building on water is still not legal in Indonesia and therefore the law should probably be adjusted. Besides the land owner is still reluctant in building legal houses on its land. In order to improve the social acceptance of floating houses, these factors should be strengthening, namely relative advantages, compatibility, complexity, trialability and observability.
