“…Importantly, gabapentin did not differ from placebo on tests of daytime drowsiness and performance. [33] Off-label clinical studies also reported beneficial effects of gabapentin on sleep,[3439] as well as on anxiety[40] and mood. [4149] A medication that decreases drinking in animal models of alcohol dependence[50] and improves symptoms of negative affect and sleep disturbance in clinical samples is of significant interest as a potential treatment for decreasing drinking relapse risk in the protracted withdrawal phase of alcohol dependence.…”

“…In a randomized, controlled, double-blind study (44), 63 MDD patients with residual sleep disturbances (PSQI >5 or ISI > 8) were randomized to receive either gabapentin in doses (100-600 mg/d) or clonazepam (0.5-2 mg/d). After 4 weeks both groups improved in both aforementioned scales, without showing any statistical difference between each drug, which proves gabapentin may be equally efficacious as clonazepam in treating residual sleep disturbances.…”

“…Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that is widely used to treat insomnia [Mowla et al, ], neuropathic pain [Kremer et al, ], drug and alcohol addiction [Mason et al, ], anxiety [Lavigne et al, ], borderline personality disorder [Peris et al, ], menopausal conditions [Yadav and Volkar, ], vertigo [Straube, ], prurititis [Straube, ] and migraine [Perloff et al, ]. Gabapentin is a GABA analog but is not an agonist at either the GABA A or GABA B receptors and does not interact with GABA uptake transporters [Offord and Isom, ].…”
