This work aimed to intensify the mass transfer between fluidizing gas and Geldart‐B nonmagnetizable particles by simultaneously introducing magnetizable particles and applying the magnetic field. The mere addition of magnetizable particles hardly affected the interphase mass transfer. Moreover, such mass transfer was not improved by the subsequent application of the magnetic field under the magnetization‐LAST operation mode. However, the mass transfer was significantly enhanced by the magnetic field in the magnetic stabilization and transition flow regimes under the magnetization‐FIRST operation mode. Apparently, the mass transfer intensification depended not only on the magnetic field intensify (H) but also on the operation mode. The gas–solid contact performance in the magnetic stabilization flow regime was always comparable to that in fixed beds. Hence, further increases in H could not raise the magnitude of intensification but only increase the operating range and stability of the magnetic stabilization, which was in metastable equilibrium.

The flow regime transitions in a gas-solid fluidized bed were studied for the first time using a micro-foil heat flux sensor. The time series of heat flux signals was analyzed by statistical and state space methods. The experimental measurements were performed in a lab-scale gas-solid fluidization column. Four different flow regimes, i.e., fixed-bed flow regime, bubbling-flow regime, slugging-flow regime, and turbulent-flow regime, and three intermediate transition velocities, i.e., minimum fluidizing velocity or minimum bubbling velocity, minimum slugging velocity, and minimum turbulent velocity, were successfully identified. The method based on the analysis of heat flux sensor measurements allowed to determine accurately the different flow regimes and the transition velocities.

Scalable Exfoliation and High‐Efficiency Separation Membrane of Boron Nitride Nanosheets

Hexagonal boron nitride nanosheets (h‐BNNSs) refer to a class of two‐dimensional materials with promising applications. However, the current method of exfoliating hexagonal boron nitride (h‐BN) into h‐BNNS limits its large‐scale application. Herein, a method was developed to exfoliate h‐BN through sucrose assisted discontinuous, multiple ball milling. A series of defect‐free, ultra‐thin large lateral‐size h‐BNNSs were successfully obtained, with a yield as high as 85 wt %. Finally, the membranes of BNNS obtained by vacuum filtration displayed a good separation performance in different organic pigment solutions. The separation rates of BNNS‐20 membranes for methylene blue and Congo red reached 87 % and 95 %, respectively. The results show that the functionalized h‐BNNSs obtained by sucrose‐assisted discontinuation, multiple ball milling have good stability in water, and hence can be applied to wastewater treatment.
