Comparing different configurations for rotary transformer of wound-rotor resolvers

Abstract: Wound-Rotor resolvers are the oldest and the most widely used resolvers. They are twophase synchronous generators with high frequency AC excitation. Rotary Transformers (RTs) are used to supply the rotating excitation winding of the resolver. Although RTs offer the benefits of contactless power transmission, harmonic contents of the secondary voltage, phase shift error between the primary and the secondary voltages, and high leakage flux are the main challenges in their usage along with resolvers. Therefore, i… Show more

“…R T S−R , R T R−R , R SS−R , and R SR−R are reluctance of stator tooth, rotor tooth, stator slot, rotor slot, and stator slot, respectively, and can be calculated by (8). Furthermore, R ij−R is the reluctance between i th tooth of rotor and j th tooth of stator and can be determined by (9).…”

“…Therefore, for the control of 2-DOF electrical machines in different applications, such as industrial and medical field robots [3], drilling [4], industrial production [5], ship propulsion [6], artillery turrets, and aerospace vehicles, 2-DOF position sensors are recommended. Considering the intrinsic future of resolvers, such as good accuracy in polluted environments [7,8] and robust performance in applications with wide temperature variation and vibration [9], resolvers are good candidate for 2-DOF position sensors.…”
