Abstract:A new statistical approach to validating climate models is introduced. First, five observational estimates of global mean surface temperature with estimated standard errors are combined into one data product, latent observed annual global temperature anomalies for the years 1880–2014, using a Bayesian hierarchical statistical approach. Summarizing these observed anomalies, estimates of smooth trend, levels of warming, and residual dependence as summarized by the spectral density function, are provided with sim… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
