Comparative transcriptome analysis of grapevine in response to copper stress

Abstract: Grapevine is one of the most economically important and widely cultivated fruit crop worldwide. With the industrialization and the popular application of cupric fungicides in grape industry, copper stress and copper pollution are also the factors affecting grape production and berry and wine quality. Here, 3,843 transcripts were significantly differently expressed genes in response to Cu stress by RNA-seq, which included 1,892 up-regulated and 1,951 down-regulated transcripts. During this study we found many k… Show more

“…Meantime, the photosynthetic activity, stomatal conductance and CO2 assimilation rate was significantly decreased in grapevine leaves under drought stress as compared to control (Table 1), and similar findings have also been reported by Leng et al (2015) and Tombesi et al (2015).…”

“…Overproduction and over-expression of various antioxidant enzymes in the reactive oxygen species (ROS) scavenging system could occur in almost all type of environmental stress conditions (Leng et al 2015). Drought stress had regulated the effectivity of many antioxidant enzymes activities such as, MDA (5.35 -8.61 nmol/g), SOD (371.56 -650.85 U g -1 min -1 ), POD (18.23 -43.9 U g -1 min -1 ) and CAT (6.32 -19.01 U g -1 min -1 ) in comparison with the control (Table 1).…”

“…To avoid the oxidative burst, plants possess a complex antioxidative defense system composed of nonenzymatic and enzymatic components. Genes encoding GST, POD, AsA-GSH cycle, Prx/Trx pathway, and PPO were detected in both plants; these genes have been shown to be involved in scavenging ROS under abiotic stress [30, 31]. Higher SOD, CAT, APX and GR activities were measured in cold-treated DX indicating that higher efficiency in the balance of ROS production.…”

“…Cu is one of these metals, although it is an essential micronutrient for normal plant growth and development, which can impair and damage plant growth when exceeding the optimal concentration12. Various physical and chemical technologies have been developed to remediate soils contaminated with metals, and phytoremediation is becoming increasingly popular because of its economic, energy-efficient, and environmentally friendly features3.…”
