Comparative Study on Cardiotoxic Effect of Tinuvin 770: A Light Stabilizer of Medical Plastics in Rat Model

Abstract: Tinuvin 770 [bis(2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-4-piperidinyl) sebacate], is a UV light stabilizer plastic additive used worldwide. It is a component of many plastic materials used in medical and food industries. Earlier studies demonstrated its in vitro L-type Ca2+ channel and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor blocking properties. Our previous experiments have proved the toxic effects of Tinuvin 770 on isolated rat cardiomyocytes. The present study investigates the cardiotoxic effects of Tinuvin 770 in vivo. Wistar rats … Show more

“…In the 1960s it was found that patients with Parkinson's disease show an almost complete depletion of DA in this region [10,15,16]. On the other hand, high levels are known to be cardiotoxic, leading to heart electrophysiology dysfunction [17]. The fact that the DA is easily an oxidizable compound makes its detection possible by electrochemical methods, i.e., using anodic oxidation.…”

“…The mechanism of action of a HALS on radicals is shown in Figure S2. Tinuvin 770 reportedly has L‐type Ca 2+ ‐channel blocker activity, and has thus been studied as an inhibitor of various receptors, and the hazards associated with Tinuvin 770 have been previously studied . The binding of HALSs to proteins was examined, but no effect was found .…”

“…We have previously demonstrated that in vitro Tinuvin-770 has time-dependent cardiotoxic effects on isolated myocardial cells [ 16 ] and dose-dependent chronic cardiotoxicity in rats in vivo [ 17 ]. It was also shown that Tinuvin 770 increased intracellular Ca 2+ accumulation and catecholamine release similarly to the first generation L-type Ca 2+ blockers.…”
