Background Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) is a condition when the median nerve is entrapped and compressed within the wrist. It significantly affects the quality of life and work productivity of the affected individuals. Aim This study aimed to assess the prevalence of CTS and the risk factors associated with this condition among the general population in Tabuk City, Saudi Arabia, and to explore their knowledge of the causes, manifestations, and treatment options. Methods This cross-sectional study included male and female adult residents of Tabuk City aged 18 years and above who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected using an online, self-administered questionnaire that was distributed to the public using different social media platforms. Results In this study, the prevalence of CTS was 3.4%. The presence of chronic diseases was a significant risk factor for the CTS (p = 0.003). Participants having chronic diseases were 6.370 times more likely to develop CTS (AOR: 6.370, 95% CI: 2.048 to 19.817). The participants had good levels of awareness about the causes (89.3%), clinical manifestations, and treatment of CTS (92.2%). There was a significant association between the level of knowledge about the causes of CTS and gender (p=0.014). Females (74.3%) showed a higher level of knowledge than males (25.7%). As well, the young (18-25) age group (67.9%) was more significantly aware of the causes of CTS in comparison to the other age groups (p=0.023). Conclusion The prevalence of carpal tunnel syndrome among the adult population in Tabuk City, Saudi Arabia, was 3.4%, and the significant underlying risk factors were chronic diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, and rheumatoid arthritis. The level of awareness of CTS was satisfactory.

Introductions: The median nerve's occasional or persistent compression or entrapment in the carpal tunnel from the wrist to the hand causes carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). The main symptoms are pain, tingling, swelling, and loss of grip strength and function in the thumb, index finger, middle finger, and thumb of thumb. This study examined Saudi adults' awareness and understanding of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and its link with demographics and chronic conditions. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study examined adults' knowledge, attitudes, and practices regarding carpal tunnel syndrome from 2021 to 2022 in different Saudi Arabian regions. This study used a researcher-created questionnaire. In the awareness category, general public questions included CTS clinical aspects, etiology, and effects on daily life. Practice questions covered CTS preventive and chronic diseases. Volunteers were selected following informed consent. Result: 420 participants aged 34.8 ± 13.49 years. 280 (66.6%) were male, 140 (33.3%) females. 38 (9.04%) were non-Saudi workers, while 384 were Saudis. 235 (55.9%) individuals knew about wrist CTS and 161 (38.3%) about pain. 157 (37.3%) individuals experienced thumb tingling or numbness, while 117 and 142 agreed that CTS may produce thumb weakness (27.8%) and hand grip (35.2%). The older age group reported more thumb numbness or tingling than the other groups, although there was no statistical difference (p= 0.09). CTS was not associated with chronic disease; however, diabetes was the main comorbidity in all age groups (44; 45.3%), especially in the middle age group (21; 60%). 5.4% had CTS. CTS was rare during pregnancy (0.7%), however all age groups agreed that it could influence their employment and social life (p= 0.014 and < 0.00001). The average knowledge score was 43.3 ± 40.5, whereas the awareness score was 50.1 ± 44.2. These findings indicate that Saudis were aware of CTS clinical symptoms. Conclusion: The study examined Saudi adults' awareness and understanding of CTS and estimated the association between CTS and demographics and chronic conditions. The study found that adult CTS awareness and knowledge were sufficient and associated with age and quality of life. CTS awareness campaigns may lower risk and raise knowledge of prevention and treatment. People who work with discomfort or use computers for long periods of time without breaks are more prone to develop CTS. Larger research is needed to understand how physical exercise causes CTS. Background Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most prevalent entrapment neuropathy affecting the upper limb. It is recognized as a complex condition that is attributed to both non-medical and medical risk factors. Lack of awareness leads to delays in seeking advice, diagnosis, and treatment. Objective To determine the awareness of CTS, its associated symptoms, signs, and risk factors among the adult population. Subjects and methods A cross-sectional study design was carried out among the adult population in Arar city, Northern Saudi Arabia. Results In total, 338 respondents participated in this study. More than one-third (40.8%) mentioned that median nerve entrapment is a cause of CTS. The most commonly cited risk factor by the respondents was engaging in physical tasks such as using a computer (53%). Additionally, 60% of participants agreed that symptoms of CTS include tingling and numbness in the thumb, index, and middle fingers. Conclusion The findings of the study indicated a lack of adequate community awareness about CTS among the studied population.
