Comparative Study of Three Solar Desalination Units Based on Theoretical and Experimental Approach

Abstract: This work presents a theoretical and experimental study of a double slope still with and without immersed fins compared to the single solar still monthly production. The influences of the distance between fins, fin heights, fin numbers and water layer thickness on the solar still production have been widely researched. From the obtained results, the distance between fins has no significant effect on the still productivity. Moreover, for fin heights from 2 to 5 cm, cause the productivity raising, when the fin h… Show more

“…The second layer of glass (3) is subjected to two convective transfers: (one between the first layer of air (2) and its upper face and the other between the second layer air (4) and its lower face) but also with two radiative transfers (one with its upper face and the lower face of the first layer of glass (1) and the other between the upper face of the absorber (5) and its underside).…”

“…One of the simplest and most direct applications of this naturally and freely available energy is to convert solar radiation into heat. This conversion is accomplished using solar panels with the objective of heating water or air for domestic and industrial applications [1]. Glazing is the top cover of a solar collector.…”

“…The exponent  varies with height, time of day, season, and nature of the terrain, wind speeds, and temperature. For relatively low heights from the ground, the values of alpha for typical classes are given in [11]. In this study, without specific site data, the one-seventh-power law ratio is applied [12].…”

“…The objective of this study is to perform the flat plate collector with using computational fluid dynamics simulation to perform detailed fluid flow and heat transfer analysis. Hocine Moungar et al [7], presents a theoretical and experimental study of a double slope still with and without immersed fins compared to the single solar still monthly production. The influences of the distance between fins, fin heights, fin numbers and water layer thickness on the solar still production have been widely researched.…”
