Aluminum 5754 alloy appears as a candidate material for many engineering applications in terms of its lightness and strength values. The surface properties of this alloy need to be improved for applications where there is surface damage such as friction and wear. In this study, Central composite design was applied to investigate the influences of anodic coating process parameters (voltage, coating time and grit size) on the response (i.e. surface roughness and coating thickness). The competence of the mathematical models recognized, and the importance of the regression coefficients were studied by ANOVA. The initial surfaces of the samples were sanded with 400, 800 and 1200 grit size and surfaces with 3 different roughnesses were obtained. Al 5754 specimens were anodic coated at 8V, 12V and 16V voltages and combinations of time parameters of 10, 20 and 30 minutes. The ANOVA results show that the designed models by RSM for average coating thickness and surface roughness are statistically important at the confidence level of 95%, and 80%, respectively. Maximum anodic coated layer of 29 µm was obtained at surface prepared with 1200 grit size, at 16V of voltage and used for 30 min of anodizing time. The lowest roughness value of 0.676 µm was obtained at the surface was prepared with 1200 grit size, 8V of voltage and anodizing time of 10 minutes.

The exclusion of systems supplying the lubricant from the outside makes it necessary to replace traditional sliding pairs with materials containing a lubricant component. Such solutions are carried out to prevent the formation of material tacks and, consequently, of adhesive wear, which must be avoided. The article presents the influence of research factors and parameters of Al2O3 layer production on tribological and microstructural properties. The input variables for the tests were the admixture of WS2 to the electrolyte, the type of sputtering of the samples for SEM tests, and the load on the oxide coating—TG15 material friction node. The surface morphology and cross-section of the oxide coatings as well as the tribological properties of the rubbing pair have been studied. Interactions between the input variables and the obtained test results have been analyzed using DOE—a 2k factorial design with one repetition. Pareto charts and two-way ANOVA were used to determine the relationship. The analysis of variance shows the influence of sample preparation on the calculation values of the size of nanopores and Al2O3 walls on the SEM image. Statistical analyzes also show that both the load and the type of electrolyte affected the values of the coefficient of friction and wear of the TG15 material; those values are the result of appropriate adhesion of the sliding film to the surface of the layer.

Aluminium alloys are a material that is increasingly used in industry. This is due to very good strength properties with low specific weight and low production costs. The disadvantage of kinematic system aluminium elements is their surface’s susceptibility to adhesive wear. One method of eliminating the adverse impact of adhesive tacks on the surfaces of cooperating aluminium components of machinery is the application of the method based on the anodic oxidation of alloys surface. The layers obtained by this method are widely used in sliding connections of kinematic machine parts. The modification of anodic oxide layers with admixtures has been an uninterrupted area of interest since the 1990s. This article is a review of selected methods of modifying the structure and properties of aluminium oxide layers on aluminium alloys.
