Comparative performance of lab tests and blood testing device to monitor glucose, total cholesterol and triacylglycerol in type 2 diabetic patients

Abstract: The performance of lab tests (LT) and blood testing devices (BTD) to monitor glycemia vs. glycated hemoglobin A1c (A1c) were compared. In addition, the performance of blood glucose, total cholesterol (TC) and triacylglycerol measured by LT and BDT were compared. All parameters were measured based on the same blood samples from overnight fasted type 2 diabetic patients (T2DP). Linear regression analysis was used for all comparisons. The results showed that A1c correlated better with LT-glucose (r = 0.58) than B… Show more

“…The contribution made by each strategy cannot be evaluated, but results showed that providing diabetes education and reinforcing lifestyle changes can help patients optimize metabolic control in a country where only 0.2% of T2DP simultaneously reach targets for glycemia, lipidemia, and blood pressure (Gomes et al, 2006). Additional details on the contribution by each method can be found in Zubioli (2011).…”

“…For this reason, we adopted T2D as a model of disease where the pharmacist could help improve standard medical care (Silva, Bazotte, 2011;Zubioli et al, 2011). In this context, the Dader method could provide adjustments for improving glycemic control (Fornos et al, 2006).…”

“…Blood glucose, glycated hemoglobin A1c, total cholesterol and triacylglycerol were determined as previously described ( 16 ). Quantitative measurement of cortisol, ACTH, C-peptide and insulin were done using chemiluminescence enzyme immunoassay kits for use on the Immulite® and Immulite® 1000 systems (Siemens, USA).…”
