Comparative performance of growth, vertebral structure and muscle composition in diploid and triploid Paralichthys olivaceus

Abstract: Growth, skeletal structure and muscle composition of cold-shock-induced triploid olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus were investigated. The average values of total length and total weight of triploids were higher than those of diploids from 5 to 11 months posthatch (mph). The growth difference disappeared after 11 mph. The skeletal structure of flounder at 11 mph was observed by X-ray imaging method. There are four kinds of vertebral deformity including vertebrae fusion, one-sided compression, two-sided comp… Show more

“…Among A. japonicus with a body length of 12–18 cm, the percentage of triploid A. japonicus was 1.37% higher than that of diploid A. japonicus . This was consistent with the triploid breeding results of other aquatic species (Peruzzi et al 2018 ; Liu et al 2018 ; Garnier-Géré et al 2002 ). Following a comparative analysis, the aestivation time of triploid A. japonicus was shorter.…”

“…Some individuals with specific alleles or genotypes are sensitive to high-pressure induction and cannot survive, resulting in the deletion or frequency reduction of the allele. Such phenomena could also be found in artificial induced triploid (Liu et al, 2018). Therefore, it is easy to explain the decrease of genetic diversity in 4n2 population compared to that in 2n2 population.…”

“…There are many studies comparing growth parameters, meat yields, and biochemical compositions of diploid and triploid fish (Manor et al, 2012;Kızak et al, 2013;Weber et al, 2014;Wang et al, 2015;Karbalaei et al, 2017;Liu et al, 2018;Ignatz et al, 2020;Meiler and Kumar, 2021). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the biochemical and fatty acid compositions of differend sex and ploidy of rainbow trout's different tissues.…”
