Comparative Outcomes of Radial and Bucket-Handle Meniscal Tear Repair: A Propensity-Matched Analysis

Abstract: Satisfactory clinical outcomes are achievable for radial meniscal tear repair at short-term follow-up. In a robustly matched comparison, radial and bucket-handle meniscal tears demonstrate similar improvements in VAS and IKDC scores, restoration of preoperative Tegner scores, and acceptable reoperation rates. Full-thickness radial meniscal tears should be considered for repair.

“…Compared with the control group, the operative time of the observation group is longer. However, the clinical efficacy of two groups is similar, and is also comparable to that reported of other conventional suture methods [34,35] . So, when the tear length of meniscus is longer and unilateral pulled-out anchor is happened during all-inside meniscal repair, this method can reduce the number of newly implanted meniscus repair system.…”

“…Compared with the control group, the observation group had a longer operative time. However, the clinical efficacy of the two groups was similar, and was also comparable to that reported for other conventional suturing methods [37,38]. Therefore, when the meniscus tear length is long and unilateral pulled-out anchor happened during all-inside meniscal repair, this method can reduce the number of new implanted meniscus repair systems needed.…”

“…Meniscus is a vital intra-articular structure to maintain knee stability, consequently slow down the progression to osteoarthritis (OA) [1,2]. It also paly an important role in load transmission, shock absorption and joint lubrication [3,4]. With the development of diagnostic techniques for meniscal injury, the volume of arthroscopic procedures to treat injuried meniscus dramatically increased in recent years.…”
