“…Wenrich (1930) reported trichomonads varying in size between 7 and 23 t±m, Whittington (1957) observed some as large as 100 ,um, and Winston (1974) reported on giant forms measuring between 30 and 50 ,um in diameter and appearing in liquid medium 12 days after incubation. Multinucleated and multiflagellated forms were also observed.…”

“…microscopic structure and mode of division, as well as methods for fixing, staining and culturing this organism are available (Wenrich, 1944;Honigberg and Lee, 1959;Diamond, 1962;Wantland et al, 1963;Belding, 1965;Probst, 1967;Faust et al, 1970;Levine 1973). Because of their morphological resemblance to other trichomonads, their marked protoplasmic plasticity (Wenrich, 1944) and the environmental and genetic variation in organism size and shape (Honigberg and Lee, 1959), identification of flagellate species using only the wet-preparation is unreliable.…”

More accurate methods, such as culture and perhaps serology, should be used for accurate species identification.…”

“…The ingestion of leukocytes by trichomonads has been reported by several workers (Schmid and Kamniker, 1925;Wenrich, 1931;Bland et al, 1931Bland et al, , 1932 and has been seen by the authors in other material. However, it was not observed in this series.…”

“…No clear division of parasites within leukocytes was observed in this current material. The ingestion of trichomonads by polymorphonuclear leukocytes in both natural and experimental infections has been reported previously by many authors including Brumpt (1913), Wenrich (1931, 1939), Bland et al (1931, 1932, Stabler (1941), Vajda (1959), and Frost et al (1961). Thus, it is not at all surprising that this occurrence was very common in the presently examined preparations.…”
