[29][30][31] Based on 14 C isotope analysis, Guitart et al [19] proposed that there are unidentified producers thriving on the surface of the ocean as planktonic organisms and synthesising MeO-PBDEs and OHPBDEs. Considering many MeO-PBDEs and OH-PBDEs have been isolated from algae, the relationships between these brominated compounds and PBs derived from once-living phytoplankton, which is the foundation of the marine food web, may provide valuable information to better understand the origins of these brominated compounds.…”
