Comparative Investigation of Corrosion-Mitigating Behavior of Thiadiazole-Derived Bis-Schiff Bases for Mild Steel in Acid Medium: Experimental, Theoretical, and Surface Study

Abstract: In the present study, comparative analyses of corrosion inhibition property of few thiadiazole-derived bis-Schiff bases for mild steel in 1 M HCl were done. Various electrochemical experiments (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and potentiodynamic polarization), as well as weight loss experiments, were employed to study the anticorrosion activity of bis-Schiff bases as inhibitors. The highest inhibition efficiency was obtained at an optimum concentration of 125 ppm for all inhibitors. Potentiodynamic pola… Show more

“…As the roughness decrease this indicate that the inhibitor made highly percent of inhibition against corrosion [58]. The lower value of roughness for inhibited solution with comparison to uninhibited one is because the adsorption of the inhibitor on the metal surface which helps for its protection from getting corroded [59].…”

“…The CH 2 group of piprazene moiety that was detected at 2.6 ppm (triplet) was verified by the 1 H NMR. The NPPMPQC contains aromatic protons were seen in the range of 7.18 to 8.95 ppm (19) . Singlet signals of the active methylene group, which served as a linker between the phenyl and the tertiary nitrogen of piperazine, at roughly 3.5 ppm and their integration for two protons in each case, are used to demonstrate the formation of NPPMPQC.…”

“…This corrosion appears to be more prominent in the fusion zone, which has the highest sensitivity to deterioration and may be accountable for high corrosion potential. The image representation of mild steel after corrosion in an acidic media including defenders represents an adherent inhibitor particles’ layer over the metal’s exterior, which protects it [ 76 , 77 , 78 ].…”
