Comparative evaluation of the protective effects of cow, buffalo and goat milk in glucocorticoid‐induced bone alterations in mice

Abstract: Glucocorticoids exhibit a crucial role in the early onset of osteopenia. Milk and milk products have a beneficial influence on bone functioning. The study delineates the bone anabolic potential of three distinct milk varieties (goat, buffalo and cow) in reinstating the detrimental effects of dexamethasone (dex) in the mice models. The current findings report the prominent suppression in the glucocorticoid-induced bone loss on feeding goat, buffalo and cow milk in mice. Interestingly, goat milk showed maximum r… Show more

“…These microorganisms are able to produce EPSs that are either covalently associated with the cell surface in the form of capsule or secreted into the growth medium in the form of slime. EPSs produced by LAB have aroused increasing attention in recent years, not only for their unique physicochemical properties, but also for biological activities including antioxidant, antibacterial, immunomodulatory and antitumor activities (Guo et al, 2013;Zhang et al, 2013;Li et al, 2014a;Kumar et al, 2021).…”

“…Milk plays an essential role in the human diet contributing to significant concentrations of minerals (zinc, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium and potassium), vitamins (A, B 1 , B 2 , B 5 , B 12 and D), high-quality proteins (casein, whey protein and bioactive peptides), carbohydrates (lactose) and fatty acids (Martins et al 2019). Furthermore, milk has been considered one of the most reliable health-promoting foods to reduce the risk of sarcopenia, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, digestive illnesses and cognitive decline (Hidayat and Du 2019;Yun et al 2020;Kumar et al 2021).…”
