Comparative evaluation of dentinal crack formation after root canal preparation with Neoendo Flex and Mani Silk files: An in vitro study

Abstract: Context: Neoendo Flex and Mani Silk are recently launched nickel–titanium (NiTi) rotary files. Dentinal cracks and file separation remain a critical problem in the endodontic domain. Aim: The aim was to evaluate and compare the incidence of dentinal crack formation after root canal preparation with Neoendo flex and Mani silk files. Materials and Methods: Thirty-six extracted single-rooted premolars with straight, single root canals were selec… Show more

“…[ 68 69 ] Previous studies have evaluated different methods of identifying dentinal microcracks after endodontic treatment, and have found no difference between micro-CT and stereomicroscope. [ 54 ] Although scanning electron microscopy identified a higher percentage of microcracks than micro-CT or stereomicroscopy,[ 70 71 ] the sample preparation for this analysis can result in new microcrack formation, thus overestimating the incidence of microcracks. [ 54 ] Furthermore, stereomicroscope requires sectioning of the root, thereby not allowing adequate evaluation before endodontic treatment is initiated.…”

“…Taken together, the inconsistency among the clinical incidence of VRFs, the reported incidence of dentinal microcracks in laboratorial studies, the position of the cracks starting mostly from the outside surface of the root instead of the root canal walls (Figure 6a), and the large discrepancy of laboratory‐based results pointed out that the destructive sectioning method was inappropriate to study the influence of endodontic procedures on dentinal crack formation. Although it seems logical that such a limited methodological approach (sectioning method) to study dentinal defects in extracted/stored teeth should not be accepted by scientific journals, articles using this method are still being published (Bürklein et al, 2018; Cassimiro et al, 2018; Das et al, 2018; Fráter et al, 2020; Guha et al, 2020; Haridas et al, 2020; Jacob et al, 2019; Khoshbin et al, 2018; Kumar et al, 2020; Lin & Ghani, 2021; Nishad & Shivamurthy, 2018; de Oliveira et al, 2017a).…”

“…[9][10] NeoEndo Flex and ProTaper Gold represent two commercially available rotary NiTi file systems with different manufacturing philosophies designed to enhance cyclic fatigue resistance. [11][12][13][14] Comparative Analysis of Cyclic Fatigue Resistance of NeoEndo Flex Vs Protaper Gold Rotary Files: An In-Vitro Study NeoEndo Flex files employ a thermal treatment process, which is speculated to develop a more flexible file that can better withstand the stresses encountered in narrow and curved canals. On the other hand, ProTaper Gold builds upon the legacy of the ProTaper family by incorporating a novel gold finishing process that asserts to offer a balance between strength and flexibility, thereby potentially extending the file's functional lifespan.…”

In-vitro testing facilitates the replication of consistent and controlled conditions that may not be readily achievable in live clinical scenarios.…”
