Comparative evaluation of clinical efficacy of β-tri calcium phosphate (Septodont-RTR) TM alone and in combination with platelet rich plasma for treatment of intrabony defects in chronic periodontitis

Abstract: Aim:To assess the clinical outcome by comparing β-tri calcium phosphate (Septodont RTR)™ along with platelet rich plasma (PRP) and β-tri calcium phosphate (β-TCP) alone in intrabony defects, by clinical evaluation in a 6-month analysis.Methodology:Ten patients participated in the study. Using a split-mouth design, interproximal bony defects were surgically treated with either platelet rich plasma (PRP) combined with β-tri calcium phosphate (β-TCP) or β-TCP alone. Plaque Index (PI), Gingival Index, Probing Pock… Show more

“…Overall good oral hygiene during the study may have resulted because of periodic recall visits in which the patients were regularly reinforced for oral hygiene maintenance and underwent supragingival scaling if required. [21] All the clinical parameters were recorded from an FRP on the acrylic stent fabricated on the cast as advocated by Talwar et al [22] Similar to their study, [22] in our study acrylic stent was not used for measuring the buccolingual width. Instead, a bone mapping caliper was used for socket width measurements clinically.…”

“…RTR ® (Septodont, Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, France) is a bone substitute comprising β-TCP granules of different sizes, ranging from 500 µm to 1 mm, that is used for bonedefect reconstruction in surgical procedures in dentistry [17], with satisfactory clinical and radiographic results for bone neoformation [17][18][19][20]. RTR ® has been shown to positively influence the differentiation of osteoblasts, the expression of bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs), and the subsequent expression of markers critical for bone formation, such as alkaline phosphatase, type I collagen, osteopontin, and osteocalcin [18,19].…”
