Comparative Efficacy of Different Anthelmintics Against Fenbendazole-Resistant Nematodes of Pashmina Goats

Abstract: A trial using albendazole, albendazole plus rafoxanide combination, ivermectin and doramectin was conducted in Pashmina goats having history of fenbendazole resistance to Haemonchus spp. and maintained at high altitude (>2350 m above sea level). Day 0 infection level was variable in different groups of animals and their larval cultures indicated Haemonchus, Trichostrongylus, Ostertagia and Oesophagostomum spp. infection, in addition to Nematodirus spp. as observed in egg counts. Efficacy of drugs was calculate… Show more

“…Reduced efficacies of the fenbendazole and levamisole drugs against GI nematode parasites in goats have been documented earlier by several workers (Yadav and Uppal 1992;Singh et al 2002;Waruiru et al 2003;Ram et al 2007). Ivermectin showed 98.11% potency against the GI nematode parasites in goats which is in line with earlier reports (Gill 1996;Ram et al 2007). The between group differences in ivermectin (Gr-C) treated animals were significant (p \ 0.05) in comparison with fenbendazole (Gr-A), levamisole (Gr-B) and untreated controls (Gr-D).…”

“…The farmers are mainly rely on anthelmintics for the control of these helminthic infections. However, reports of the poor efficacy and/or failure of these drugs against gastrointestinal nematodes of goats have been documented by several workers (Yadav and Uppal 1992;Laha et al 1999;Ram et al 2007). Therefore, the present study was carried out to evaluate the comparative efficacy of fenbendazole, levamisole and ivermectin against naturally acquired nematode infections in Jamunapari goats at Jaipur.…”

“…(Jeyathilakan et al 2003;Arunachalam et al 2005;Easwaran et al 2009). Ram et al (2007) and Laha et al (1999) reported the less therapeutic efficacy of AZ against GI nematodes of goats. The results of the present study were found to be in accordance with these findings.…”

“…Penggunaan obat cacing yang berlebihan telah dilaporkan menyebabkan resistensi pada anak sapi dan ruminansia kecil (Garg et al 2007;Ram et al 2007). Saat ini telah banyak dilaporkan kejadian resistensi cacing nematoda terhadap obat cacing di beberapa negara (Papadopoulos 2008;Nabukenya et al 2014) termasuk Indonesia (Haryuningtyas & Beriajaya 2002).…”
