Comparative DNA isolation behaviours of silica and polymer based sorbents in batch fashion: monodisperse silica microspheres with bimodal pore size distribution as a new sorbent for DNA isolation

Abstract: Monodisperse silica microspheres with bimodal pore-size distribution were proposed as a high performance sorbent for DNA isolation in batch fashion under equilibrium conditions. The proposed sorbent including both macroporous and mesoporous compartments was synthesized 5.1 μm in-size, by a "staged shape templated hydrolysis and condensation method". Hydrophilic polymer based sorbents were also obtained in the form of monodisperse-macroporous microspheres ca 5.5 μm in size, with different functionalities, by a … Show more

“…Monodisperse-porous metal oxide microspheres, synthesized by staged-shape templated hydrolysis and condensation protocol or staged sol-gel templating protocol, and capable of interacting with the biomolecules via MOAC were also evaluated for their isolation or colorimetric detection [64,[89][90][91]. Monodisperse-porous silica microspheres with a mean size of ca 5.0 μm and bimodal pore size distribution were used as stationary phase in a microfludic system for isolation of human genomic DNA (hgDNA) from human whole blood via MOAC [64].…”

“…Peripheral blood of red-crowned crane ($) were collected from Beijing Zoo in Beijing, China. The specimens were kept in the laboratory at À80 C, total genomic DNA was extracted using a DNA extract kit following the previously reports (Bai et al 2010;Gunal et al 2018). And we used next-generation sequencing to perform low coverage whole genome sequencing.…”
