Comparative Design of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors for Low-Power Industrial Applications

Abstract: Permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) have superior features such as less volume and weight, long-life, high performance compared to induction motors. In this study, a comparative design of PMSMs is provided by considering a 2.2 kW induction motor nameplate parameters which is commonly used in industrial applications. A parametric analysis is used in order to design stator slot and magnet geometries of Surface-Mounted Permanent Magnet Synchronous (SPM) and Interior Permanent Magnet (IPM) Motors to get th… Show more

“…The effects of magnet geometry on cost are also among the topics discussed in the literature [13]. The cogging torque is considered comparatively between the axial flux PMSM and the outer rotor PMSM [14] and between the PMSM and the induction motor [15]. Occurring errors during the manufacturing process in the stator slots of the machine, [16] and stator tooth geometries [17] affect the cogging torque.…”

“…-Since rotor losses is mainly copper losses causing the heating then PMSM is a good selection since its rotor is free from windings. As a result, PMSM becomes a popular type of electrical machine to be applied in industrial application because of its compactness, efficiency, robustness, reliability, and shape adaptation to working environment [4][5][6]. From another Industrial efficacy of electrical energy is an important feature for our daily life.…”
