Comparative Analysis of the Effects of Dorzolamide and Latanoprost on Ocular Hemodynamics in Normal Tension Glaucoma Patients

Abstract: Dorzolamide, unlike latanoprost, significantly reduced AVP times in the superior temporal retina in normal tension glaucoma (NTG) patients.

“…In multiple studies, we also failed to detect significant changes in CDI parameters. [2][3][4][5] The present findings support the existing literature suggesting that arterio-venous passage times are more sensitive to changes in retinal haemodynamics than CDI.…”

“…The 24-hour diurnal IOP was statistically lower with bimatoprost compared with latanoprost in a double-masked cross-over comparison (n = 42), although the difference was small and latanoprost better tolerated with regard to conjunctival hyperemia. 41 However, for NTG a meta-analysis 169 found IOP reduction was greatest for brimonidine (24%), followed by bimatoprost (21%), latanoprost (20%), timolol (15%), and dorzolamide (14%) at peak, and greatest for latanoprost (20%), followed by timolol (18%) and bimatoprost (18%), dorzolamide (12%), and brimonidine (11%) at trough. Ten of the 15 trials involved a PGA.…”

“…Ten of the 15 trials involved a PGA. 44,53,56,103,114,169,[170][171][172][173] Subjects (n = 1571) switched to latanoprost from previous glaucoma monotherapy and fixed and unfixed combination therapies maintained IOP to an acceptable level through a 2-year period. 174 Latanoprost-insensitive patients developed IOP lowering with bimatoprost in a randomized prospective study with two 30-day treatment phase and 30-day washout phase.…”
