Comparative analysis of platelets adhesion to the surface of Ta-based ceramic coatings deposited by magnetron sputtering

Abstract: The adhesion of platelets to the surface of implants and stents depends on the material’s properties, such as surface roughness, topography and wettability. The present study analyzes the composition and surface properties of nanostructured Ta, Ta2O5 and TaON coatings and their correlation with the adhesion of platelets. The surface morphology and topography were observed by atomic force microscopy and electron scanning microscopy; while the elemental distribution and chemical composition were analyzed by ener… Show more

“…The characteristics of the oxynitride coating deposition process were as follows: a tantalum target with a diameter of 170 mm; base pressure of the vacuum system of about 1×10 -3 Pa; Ar pressure of 6.5×10 -2 Pa; total mass flow-rate of oxygen and nitrogen of 60 sccm with varying oxygen-nitrogen ratio; total pressure of about 1×10 -1 Pa; magnetron voltage of 610 V and magnetron current of 6.5 А. The samples' surface was cleaned prior to deposition by an ion source [1]. The thickness of the coatings was ~ 2 μm as estimated by a Calotest device.…”

“…The thickness of the coatings was ~ 2 μm as estimated by a Calotest device. The data on samples characteristics, such as, surface morphology, chemical and phase composition, and mechanical parameters were obtained and analyzed by equipment and analytical techniques described in detail in [1]. The set-up employed is presented schematically in figure 1.…”

“…In the studies carried out in [1][2][3][4][5], the formation of coatings from ternary oxynitride structures TaO x N y was performed by the method of reactive magnetron sputtering at different flows of reactive gases, Oxygen and Nitrogen. In [1] photocatalytic and antibacterial properties of tantalum oxynitride obtained by the method of RF magnetron sputtering was investigated.…”
