Comparative Analysis of NR/EPDM Ratio and Carbon Black Selection on Mechanical Properties of Vulcanized Pneumatic Fenders

Abstract

In this research, natural rubber RSS1 was formulated with synthetic rubber EPDM and various types of carbon black filler for marine rubber fender products. This study aims to determine the effect of the NR/EPDM ratio and type of carbon black filler on the mechanical properties of rubber compounds. Mechanical properties testing followed the referenced ISO 17357-1:2014. The optimum rubber compound formulation was found in a sample with NR/EPDM ratio of 100/0 and carbon black N220 filler which has superior mechanical properties.
