Comparative analysis of nasal and oral mucosa dendritic cells

Abstract: Together these data imply that nmDC phenotypical differ from omDC which might result in diverse functional properties and might be of relevance for selecting routes for immunotherapy of atopic diseases. Moreover these data provide a basis for further studies investigating immunological mechanisms underlying mucosal immunotherapy.

“…The importance of Langerhans cells in the induction of immune tolerance to allergens has been highlighted in mechanistic studies of SLIT. Oral Langerhans cells constitutively express the high-affinity receptor for IgE (FceRI) and Fcg receptors, allowing them to bind allergen, and are the main dendritic cell subset in the oral mucosa (28). These cells display an immature phenotype.…”

“…Immature Langerhans-type dendritic cells (iLC) are the only professional antigen-presenting cells located in the outermost layers of the oral mucosa (9)(10)(11)(12)(13)(14). As such, iLC are bound to be the first immune cells to encounter invading pathogens that access their hosts via the oral cavity, such as CMV.…”

“…Существует предположение, что дендритные клетки слизистой ротовой полости, подобные клеткам Лангерганса, играют решающую роль при сублингвальном введении аллергенов [8,13]. Во время сублингвальной АСИТ аллерген захва-тывается этими клетками, которые созревают и мигрируют в регионарные лимфатические узлы.…”
