Comparative analysis of myostatin gene and promoter sequences of Qinchuan and Red Angus cattle

Abstract: ABSTRACT.To better understand the function of the myostatin gene and its promoter region in bovine, we amplified and sequenced the myostatin gene and promoter from the blood of Qinchuan and Red Angus cattle by using polymerase chain reaction. The sequences of Qinchuan and Red Angus cattle were compared with those of other cattle breeds available in GenBank. Exon splice sites were confirmed by mRNA sequencing. Compared to the published sequence (GenBank accession No. AF320998), 69 single nucleotide polymorphism… Show more

“…In fact, the alignment of chicken MSTN 5′ regulatory region with mammal species (human, mouse and bovine) revealed a low level of sequence similarity (30% between chicken and human) [74], which was also observed in our analysis (Additional file 2). Similar results were obtained when comparing the 5′ regulatory region of birds with more distantly related animals, such as Xenopus tropicalis and zebrafish ( mstn - 1 and -2 ), indicating sequence variation between such organisms [43]. However, when comparisons were performed with mammals and birds versus fish mstn-1 , a short region of MSTN promoter was found conserved (Fig.…”

“…The Ho value lower than He indicated that an inbreeding probability were occured in this population (Nassiry et al, 2009). Polymorphism in promoter region was also identified by He et al (2013) at locus -371 of MSTN promoter gene which has 18 polymorphic SNPs in Qinchuan cattle. The most valuable meat is from longissimus dorsi which is in this research overall average of LDT and BFT were 33.047±5.077 mm and 1.455±0.348 mm, respectively.…”

“…Interest for its investigation does not fade. Various allelic variants has been identified, the relationships of single nucleotide substitutions in this gene with productive traits in various animals has been determined (Ye et al, 2007;He et al, 2013;Hope et al, 2013;Tu et al, 2013;Dementeva et al, 2017;Mitrofanova et al, 2017;Rooney et al, 2017). There are studies confirming the associative links of SNPs in the region of the myostatin gene with the growth rate of young chickens and body weight (Dushyanth et al, 2016).…”
