Comparative Analysis of Morphometric Characteristics of Scorpaenidae and Gobioninae

Abstract: Measurements of closely related sets of classical and truss dimensions were analyzed to discriminate species of scorpaenidae including the dark banded rockfish, Sebastes inermis, the black rockfish, S. schlegeli, and gobioninae including the striped shiner, Pungtungia herzi, and the slender shiner, Pseudopungtungia tenuicorpa. The measurements of the dimensions were arc sin square root transformed, and compared as a function of the standard length of each species for statistical analysis. For values of the cla… Show more

“…A landmark is a point of correspondence on an object that matches between and within populations. Park et al [92] analyzed classical and truss dimensions to discriminate different species of dark banded rockfish, black rockfish, striped shiner and the slender shiner. Suryaningsih et al [93] reported application of truss morphometrics technique in silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus) to distinguish male and female stating that, male fish had a more elongated body size than female.…”

“…Data karakteristik morfometrik yang diperoleh dianalisis menggunakan ANOVA satu arah diikuti dengan Uji Beda Nyata Terkecil dan Discriminant Function Analysis (Ibanẽz et al, 2007;Park et al, 2015). Analisis data dilakukan dengan bantuan perangkat lunak SPSS Versi 22.0.…”

“…The morphometrical study may be used basically in the three study sides. First, identification of the species and gender ( Park et al., 2001a ), along with confirm species such as uncertain hybrid ( Strauss, 1986 ; Park et al, 2003 ); Second, study out the morphometrical changes of population and species ( Strauss, 1985 ; Lee & Kim, 1990 ; Park et al, 2001b and 2015 ; Goo et al, 2015 ); and third, biological systematic identification of association and classification.…”

“…These landmarks are identified based on local morphological features, and they are chosen to divide the body into functional units ( Strauss & Bond, 1990 ). Truss dimensions, which include components of body depth and length along the longitudinal axis, have theoretical advantages over classical morphometric characteristics for discriminating among groups ( Park et al, 2007 and 2015 ; Goo et al, 2015 ).…”
