Comparative analysis of antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds in the fruits of Aronia spp.

Abstract: Chokeberry (Aronia Medik.) is a non-traditional fruit plant known as a rich source of biologically active compounds and inhibits the numerous biological activities. We compared the antioxidant activity and phenolic compounds of fruits between widely cultivated Aronia mitschurinii (AM-TCH, from Tchekhov district; AM-D, from Dmitrov district; AM-OZ, from Orekhovo-Zuevsky district of Moscow region, Russia) and introduced North American Aronia species (Aronia arbutifolia (AA-M), A. melanocarpa (AML-M), A. × prunif… Show more

“…Large differences in the content of phenolic compounds depending on the variety of chokeberry, as well as climatic conditions during ripening and harvesting have been indicated. The exemplary TPC values obtained and published for A. melanocarpa fruits are: 40.06 mg GAE (gallic acid)/g [ 62 ], 106,337.20 mg GAE/kg [ 24 ], 690–2560 [ 25 ], 1079–1921 [ 63 ], 3955.28–4393.50 [ 64 ] mg GAE/100 g FW [ 25 ], 10,386–14,350 mg/kg FW [ 24 ].…”

“…The search for new plant species, especially neglected and underutilized plant species that are a valuable source of biologically active compounds, and creation on its basis the new generation of nutritional supplements, has recently become an urgent branch of modern biological science, and one of the most important scientific directions (Brindza et al, 2006(Brindza et al, , 2016Klymenko et al, 2017). Guided by these new requirements, an international team of scientists has been studying for several years the content of biologically active compounds in various organs of cultivated new plants to the region (Monka et al, 2014;Ivanišová et al, 2017;Klymenko et al, 2017Klymenko et al, , 2019Horčinová Sedláčková et al, 2018;Grygorieva et al, 2020a, b;Vinogradova et al, 2020). This article focuses on Asimina triloba (L.) Dunal.…”
