Comparative Analysis among Radar Image Filters for Flood Mapping

Abstract: Due to the characteristics of microwave signals, Radar satellite image has been used for flood detection without weather and time influence. The more methods of flood detection were developed, the more detection rate of flood area has been increased. Since flood causes a lot of damages, flooded area should be distinguished from non flooded area. Also, the detection of flood area should be accurate. Therefore, not only image resolution but also the filtering process is critical to minimize resolution degradatio… Show more

“…Recently, as global warming continues, abnormal weather phenomena include precipitation and high temperatures occur frequently, leading to various environmental problems, including localized downpours, flooding, drought and heat waves, that could cause many casualties (Kim et al 2016;Novelo-Casanova & Rodr ıguez-Vangort 2016). Floods can incur an enormous economic cost, particularly in city centres that comprise high levels of urban infrastructure that includes buildings and transportation facilities Klaus et al 2016).…”

“…A flood risk mapping study using 16 years of rainfall and historical satellite data was also carried out employing the advantages of satellite images, which can be monitored periodically [27]. In addition, flood depth was estimated using high-resolution SAR images [28], and filter comparison analysis was performed to interpret radar images for flood mapping [29].…”

“…To enhance detection accuracy, we proposed a preprocessing method for SAR images and compared its detection results to others from different preprocessed images. The ship detection performance was expressed in terms of precision, recall, and average precision (AP) [15][16][17]. By using the proposed preprocessing method, the trained M2Det deep learning model could achieve highest accuracy (95.55% AP).…”
