Compact substrate integrated waveguide mono-pulse antenna array

Abstract: A compact monopulse antenna array based on substrate integrated waveguide technology is presented through this article. The design is fabricated on Printed Circuit Board (PCB) technology consisting of a double-layered 8-cell array antenna with a slot in the middle-ground metal used for aperture-coupling excitation and reducing unwanted spurious emissions from feed network. The Impedance bandwidth and AR bandwidth are enhanced due to optimal feed network, including Rat-Race coupler to generate sum and differenc… Show more

“…A prototype of the antenna was fabricated and tested at the centre frequency of 9.9 GHz, with a gain of 9.2 dBi, which has the potential for further improvement. A compact monopulse antenna array prototype, based on SIW technology and measuring 124 mm x 25 mm, is fabricated and tested [10], demonstrating excellent agreement between measured and simulated results, with an impedance bandwidth of 4% and a null-depth of 22 dB in difference mode. The entire structure can be realized on an SIW platform.…”

“…By tilting the angle of θ in the antenna feed network, the coupling mechanism for the structure changes abruptly. Due to the aperture-coupling mechanism in this array, undesirable spurious harmonic response does not cause any problem since the feed region is isolated from the radiating region of the antenna due to the existence of a ground plane [12]. This is one of the advantages of the aperture-coupled array design over the inset feed antenna.…”

“…A compact double layer 8-cell SIW array antenna with circular polarization characteristics has been reported for mono-pulse applications. An improved rat-race-based feed network has been utilized to generate sum and difference patterns [12]. A Ka -band SIW slot array antenna for mono-pulse application has been fabricated and measured in [13].…”
