Compact Printed Multiband Antenna With Independent Setting Suitable for Fixed and Reconfigurable Wireless Communication Systems

Abstract: Abstract-This paper presents the design of a low-profile compact printed antenna for fixed frequency and reconfigurable frequency bands. The antenna consists of a main patch, four sub-patches, and a ground plane to generate five frequency bands, at 0.92, 1.73, 1.98, 2.4, and 2.9 GHz, for different wireless systems. For the fixed-frequency design, the five individual frequency bands can be adjusted and set independently over the wide ranges of 18.78%, 22.75%, 4.51%, 11%, and 8.21%, respectively, using just one … Show more

“…This is a problem for cell phones, as they regularly need to work on at least two groups at the same time. A sum of parasitic patches had been juxtaposed with respect to a ground plane in [9,10]. Frequency switching was accomplished via join or separate one or more parasitic patches, or altering the feeding position.…”

“…With the rapid development of different wireless communications systems, it is highly desirable if one or more of the above-mentioned antennas characteristics can be reconfigured. Thus, substantial research work has been carried out to reconfigure these characteristics of antennas [1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…To fulfill such demands, antenna as one of the key elements in a wireless communication system needs to have multiband operation. Recently, significant research efforts have been put to study frequency reconfiguration antennas . Frequency reconfigurable antennas can be classified into two categories, namely band switching and continuous tuning .…”

“…In both cases, DC biasing circuits are needed to bias the varactors and PIN‐diodes. The biasing circuits for patch antennas , slot antennas , and planar inverted F‐antennas are relatively easy to design. As mobile users are looking for thinner wireless devices, planar monopole antenna, having simple structure and omnidictional radiation, is becoming more attractive.…”
