Compact planar ultra‐wideband antenna with quintuple band‐notched characteristics

Abstract: A compact ultra-wideband planar monopole antenna with a size of 22 mm by 34 mm is presented to achieve the quintuple-band-notched characteristics. The proposed antenna consists of a Mickey-mouse shaped radiating element, a truncated/smoothed ground plane and a microstrip feed-line. The quintuple-band-notched function is achieved by integrating five specially designed half/one-wavelength M-shaped resonators into the radiator, feed-line and ground plane. The simulated and measured results show that the proposed … Show more

“…Figure A,B show the geometry of the proposed fractal monopole antenna that consists of four nested trapezoidal rings and a defected ground plane. The ground plane is smoothen at the edges to reduce the electromagnetic coupling and to achieve good impedance matching over a wide frequency range. An arc slit of radius “ r ” and two parasitic T‐shaped slots of dimensions (sl1, sw1, sl2, sw2) are also etched on ground at a distance “d” from both sides of feed line to further enhance the impedance matching .…”

“…Multiple novel shapes such as rugby ball [19], Mickey mouse antenna [20] were invented earlier by modifying this conventional CDM. Compared to circular disk shape, elliptical shape can enhance the effective length of antenna radiator without affecting the simplicity and compactness of CDM.…”

“…This technique is based on etching different forms of slots like rectangular slot, U-shaped slot, Cshaped slot, L-shaped slot, and other forms in the radiation element, in the ground plane or in the feed line. [13][14][15][16] Another approach uses, like integrating a split ring resonator or electrical ring resonator near the feed line or integrated on the back side for coplanar waveguide (CPW) antennas. 2,[17][18][19] The UWB antennas can be designed with one notched-band, 4,20 dual notchedbands, 21,22 triple notched-bands, quadruple notchedbands, 13,23 and with five notched-bands 24,25 to filter desired narrow bands in UWB spectrum.…”
