Compact planar magneto‐electric dipole‐like circularly polarized antenna

Abstract: A novel circularly polarized (CP) substrate integrated magneto-electric dipole (MED) antenna has been designed for appropriate wireless communication. The antenna comprises two printed radiating arc-shaped patches and a feeding strip on top, two rows of embedded metallic vias, and a ground plane. A coax probe is used to excite the patches and via rows simultaneously with the help of a printed feeding strip. Finally, the antenna design has been prototyped and its performance experimentally was verified in terms… Show more

“…Figure 4B shows the photo of the assembled transition with the back‐to‐back structure with two waveguide‐to‐coaxial adapters, which can easily measure the IL and RL. In fact, the circuit can be fed by coaxial line as, 17 that is, a pair of inner conductor of coaxial line welded at the two pads in Figure 3D. However, to better ensure the stability and re‐usability of the circuit, a layer of ground coplanar waveguide (GCPW) is installed on the bottom of transition as Figure 4C, and a pair of adapters to coaxial line will install on the balanced ports for measurement.…”

“…Circularly polarized (CP) antennas are used to transmit and receive signals in an interferent environment since the CP antennas are less susceptible to fading environments, multi-path distortions, and immune interference [4]. In [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], [10], [11], and [12], various types of CP antenna for 5G applications have been proposed. Specifically, in [5], a series slot-fed CP antenna achieves an impedance bandwidth (IBW) of 10.89% (27.2 -30.35 GHz) and axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) of 8.57% .…”

“…The MTS structures are also utilized to improve impedance bandwidth and axial ratio bandwidth. In [11], a magneto-electric dipole CP antenna achieves an IBW of 13% (6.15 -7.01 GHz) and 3-dB ARBW of 2.53% (6.24 -6.4 GHz). In [12], a substrate integrated waveguide-fed CP antenna with parasitic patches achieves an IBW of 21% (5.37 -6.95 GHz) and 3-dB ARBW of 7.35% (5.97 -6.6 GHz).…”

“…Unluckily, all of these bands suffer from being quite narrow indicating that the antenna can only be used in specific wireless communication systems. The proposed unidirectional antenna in [14] is based on an RHCP single substrate integrated magneto-electric dipole (MED) and is intended for lightweight wireless transceivers used in satellite communication or the sub-6 GHz band. It features high efficiency and gain but suffers from narrow FIBW (13%) and FARBW (2.5%).…”
