Compact folded line rat-race hybrid couplers

Abstract-In this paper, a miniaturized branch-line coupler is proposed. The topology of the circuit is designed using novel design of T-model approach with open stubs with high-low impedances, which provides necessary bandwidth for WLAN band at 2.45 GHz. The miniaturized branch-line coupler is designed and fabricated with a low-cost FR4 substrate as a platform in producing significantly reduction by more than 64.21% compared to the conventional coupler on inexpensive board. Furthermore, the coupler can equally divide the input signal with 90 • phase of difference while maintaining the initial power from the source.

Abstract-In this paper, a novel miniaturized branch-line coupler (BLC) operating at 1.675 GHz is proposed. Partially meandered lines and dual transmission lines equivalent technology are used as the coupler's shunt arms, producing significant reduction by more than 68% compared with the conventional coupler. Moreover, the coupler can equally divide the input signal with 90 • phase of difference while maintaining the initial power from the source with a simple structure. The simulated and measured results are in good agreement, thereby verifying the design concept.

Abstract-A novel compact branch-line coupler operating in two arbitrary frequencies is proposed, analyzed and designed. Steppedimpedance stubs are used in the branch-line coupler to achieve dualband applications. Parameters of the structure are chosen and provided for design guidelines. Broader operating frequency ratios and compactness are achievable. For the purpose of validation, a microstrip coupler operating at 2.4/5.2 GHz is fabricated and measured.
