Compact diode-pumped 11 kW Yb:YAG Innoslab femtosecond amplifier

Abstract: We demonstrate a compact diode-pumped Yb:KGW femtosecond oscillator-Yb:YAG Innoslab amplifier master oscillator power amplifier (MOPA) with nearly transform-limited 636 fs pulses at 620 W average output power, 20 MHz repetition rate, and beam quality of M(x)(2) = 1.43 and M(y)(2) = 1.35. By cascading two amplifiers, we attain an average output power of 1.1 kW, a peak power of 80 MW, and a 615 fs pulse width in a single linearly polarized beam. The power-scalable MOPA is operated at room temperature, and no chi… Show more

“…However, novel laser concepts, such as thin-disk 12,13 , innoslab 14 , and fiber lasers 15 , have shown impressive advances in their performance and reached the kilowatt level of average power during pulsed operation. All of these architectures are based on ytterbium-doped laser materials that limit the attainable pulse duration to a few hundred femtoseconds.…”

“…Up to now, slab amplifiers have only been used for picosecond pulses in a side-pumped geometry yielding <20 MW peak power [6,7]. Successful power scaling of a 615-fs system at 20-MHz repetition rate has recently been demonstrated with two Yb:YAG slabs in a 7 + 1 pass configuration yielding kW-level output power [11].…”

“…To date, a lot of development work has been carried out to demonstrate the ability of the InnoSlab laser to obtain a near diffraction limited beam quality simultaneously with high output power [11][12][13]. However, most of the research work was focused on the Nd doped and Yb doped InnoSlab lasers and amplifiers at wavelengths of 1 and 1.3 µm [14][15][16][17].…”
