Compact beam splitters in coupled waveguides using shortcuts to adiabaticity

Abstract: There are various works on adiabatic (three) waveguide coupler devices but most are focused on the quantum optical analogies and the physics itself. We successfully apply shortcuts to adiabaticity techniques to the coupled waveguide system with a suitable length for integrated optics devices. Especially, the counter-diabatic driving protocol followed by unitary transformation overcomes the previously unrealistic implemention, and is used to design feasible and robust 1×2 and 1×3 beam splitters for symmetri… Show more

“…6, where x c = 0 mm y c = 1.03 mm. Here the operation band ranges from 4 GHz to 7 GHz, when H 0 is tuned from 443 G to 1450 G. In the region [4,7] GHz, H 0 versus f for η 1 /η 2 = 0.65/0.35 is similar to the first case as expected. For both examples, the transmission efficiency of 100% is preserved.…”

“…Besides, Chung et al (2017) designed a short and broadband silicon asymmetric Yjunction two-mode (de)multiplexer using the theory in Martínez-Garaot et al (2017), Wu et al (2017c) put forward the generation of 3D entanglement using dressed states, and Huang et al (2017) applied the counterdiabatic approach to design shorter and robust two-and three-waveguide couplers. Finally, Chen et al (2018b) used the Lie-transform theory in Martínez-Garaot et al (2014a) to design compact beam splitters.…”

“…During the optical simulations, the refractive index of the substrate is chosen as n s = 1.5. In the nearly symmetric waveguide, the coupling coefficient C and the waveguide separation D are well fitted by the following exponential relation: [66]. We choose that all waveguides have the same width W = 3µm and ∆n = 0.0116.…”
