Compact all-fiber source of coherent linearly polarized octave-spanning supercontinuum based on normal dispersion silica fiber

Abstract: We report the generation of coherent octave-spanning supercontinuum in an all-fiber system, without any free-space optical components. The setup uses the femtosecond fiber laser as a pump and an all-normal dispersion microstructured fiber as a medium for supercontinuum generation. The generated spectrum is characterized both experimentally and numerically and shows a broad bandwidth (1.1−2.2 μm), a high signal to noise ratio reaching 100 at maximum, a high coherence (closing to 1), linear polarization and aver… Show more

“…Hence, our work paves the way for the construction of next generation ultra-low noise high power ultrashort pulse amplifiers and frequency combs practically free of excess noise by simply replacing all the fibers in our system with their corresponding PM version. Since PM ANDi fibers and corresponding SC sources are now available 43,44 , this is a straightforward task. Indeed, our preliminary tests with a PM ANDi SC source and an all-PM chirped pulse amplification system indicate that the RIN after the amplifier is very close to the RIN of the Er-fiber seed system 45 .…”

“…Progress in development of high pulse energy, allfiber oscillators, as well as fiber concatenating technology prompted introduction of interesting all-fiber system for supercontinuum light sources (Nicholson et al 2003;Chen et al 2011;Petersen et al 2016;Hudson et al 2017;Tarnowski et al 2019). All-fiber supercontinuum systems are highly advantageous as they are robust, compact and lack the need for alignment, which makes them attractive for use by non-specialists.…”
