The mangrove forest in Brebes is one of the mangrove areas that were degraded due to abrasion and excessive logging in the North Coast of Java Island, Indonesia. This research aimed to analyze macrozoobenthos community structure in the mangrove forest that has not been documented. Surveys were carried out in the rainy season. In this study, a total of 10 sampling locations were divided into two different groups that represent “control” (station) and “disturbed” sites. The main structural parameters of the macrozoobenthos identified at each station were specific richness S (number of species), abundance N (number of individuals.m-2), the Shannon-Wiener index N1. A total of 346 specimens were counted from the two different stations (“control” and “disturbed”). These specimens were belonged to five animal classes, namely, Bivalvia, Gastropod, Malacostraca, Polychaeta, Cephalopoda. Pairwise comparison of the site groups with one-way analysis of similarity (ANOSIM) was not significant for between “control” and “disturbed” groups (p=0.062), where the average dissimilarity between the two stations was 88.42%. This result provides macrozoobenthos diversity and ecological information that may contribute to further conservation management in the mangrove forest in Brebes, Indonesia.

Water quality is influenced by the high activity in the port area, resulting in decreasing water quality. The biological parameters based on the structure of the aquatic community of organisms that act as bioindicators could be indicated as changes in water quality around the port. Bioindicators are a group of living organisms susceptible to environmental changes due to human activities and natural damage. One of the aquatic organisms that can be used as an indicator of water quality is Benthos because of its sedentary nature. This study aims to determine the quality of the water environment seen from the benthic community structure, namely density, diversity index, uniformity and dominance index, to embody the clean and pollution-free Kutaraja Fishing Port. The research shows that the aquatic environment of Kutaraja Fishing Port is included as the less stable category with a moderate diversity value (H' 1) but has high benthic individual uniformity (E 0.6), which means that individuals are evenly distributed a low dominance value or C is close to 0.Keywords:Water qualityBio-indicatorBenthosKutarajaBanda Aceh

Organisms that live permanently on the bottom of lentic or still waters, such as macrozoobenthos, are very susceptible to changes in water quality that can have an impact on their composition and abundance. Because of their tolerance to environmental changes, these organisms are often used as an indicator in physical and chemical changes in the aquatic environment. Rawa Jombor or Jombor swamp is a lentic freshwater in Krakitan Village, Bayat District, Klaten, Central Java. In addition to tourism, the surrounding community uses Rawa Jombor in their daily activities for floating market and fish cages. The existence of these various activities can produce waste and garbage which then settles to the bottom of the waters and has an impact on reducing water quality. This study aims to examine the diversity and distribution of macrozoobenthos. Water quality was measured by taking samples at three locations, namely station I (littoral zone), station II (limnetic zone), and station III (benthic zone). Sampling at each station used a Van Veen grab sediment sampler. The Macrozoobenthos Diversity Index was determined using the Shannon & Wiener formula. The diversity index values for stations I, II, and III are 1.579; 1.566; and 1.785, respectively, with moderate levels of community diversity. 14 types of macrozoobenthos were identified, of which Tubifex tubifex was the most abundant species in station 1 and station 2. Meanwhile at station 3 is dominated by Anentome Helena. Based on the analysis of organism diversity and the results of water quality inspection in our study, it shows that the water quality in the Jombor swamp is classified as moderately polluted.
