Community Participation in Health Disparity Intervention Research in Vietnamese American Community

Abstract: CBPR in underserved communities has their own styles, expectations, benefits, and challenges. Understanding these issues is critical in engaging the community.

“…They are members of the community of focus who speak the same language and share similar cultural backgrounds and/or social connections; because of their backgrounds and connections, they can be effective in delivering health messages in a trusted and culturally appropriate manner (Pasick et al, 2009).
