Purpose The cost to supermarkets from shoplifting is a growing problem. Despite huge investments in formal security measures, supermarkets experience shrinkage and face heavy financial losses. Hence, this paper explores an alternative approach to shoplifting prevention. The purpose of this paper is to propose that quality relationships between a supermarket and its customers could be a viable strategy for shoplifting prevention. A conceptual model is presented at the end of this paper for encouraging shoplifting prevention using a theory of planned behaviour perspective. Design/methodology/approach A systematic search of literature on relationship quality was conducted. Research papers were shortlisted from peer-reviewed journals published between 2007 and 2016. For the convenience of readers, studies on relationship quality are presented in six cross-checked information categories in a table. Findings This study produced two results. First, it finds three antecedents of supermarket-customer relationship quality. These are as follows: a supermarket’s participation in corporate social responsibility and cause-related marketing initiatives, a supermarket’s service quality, and a customer’s attachment to a supermarket’s place/location. Second, there are three major effective dimensions of relationship quality. These are as follows: satisfaction, trust, and commitment. The proposed model incorporates factors from both findings, to measure a supermarket-customer relationship quality that may influence intention of customers to engage in shoplifting preventive behaviour. Originality/value This research paper has reviewed the existing literature to utilise it in the context of shoplifting prevention, and developed a novel model/framework for effective shoplifting prevention with a theory of planned behaviour perspective.

Kesuksesan implementasi desa pintar dilandasi dari keberhasilan desa melakukan transformasi digital dengan Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi (TIK) sebagai pendorongnya. Akibatnya, desa memerlukan sebuah pusat pengembangan TIK yang lebih dikenal dengan istilah telecenter. Telecenter berkontribusi dalam pembangunan sosial dan ekonomi desa dengan TIK sebagai kuncinya. Di Indonesia, pendirian telecenter semakin marak tapi hingga saat ini dirasa masih belum menunjukan keberhasilannya. Kesulitan yang muncul yakni, kendala infomobilisation dan pengelolaan keuangan untuk membayar konektivitas, pemeliharaan peralatan dan gaji staff telecenter. Tujuan penelitian ini, menyediakaan model pengembangan telecenter berbentuk Badan Usaha Milik Desa (BUM Des) yang didasari teori organisasi hibrida. Pendekatan penelitian ini dilakukan secara kualitatif dengan studi kasus Desa Lamahu, Bone Bolango, Gorontalo. Proses pengumpulan data melalui wawancara, dan hasil wawancara dianalisis secara interprestasi berdasarkan teori organisasi hibrida. Hasil penelitian didapatkan bahwa pengembangan telecenter ini perlu meninjau 3 aspek yakni (1) pendirian telecenter harus memiliki misi sebagai usaha sosial yang bergerak dalam implementasi teknologi tepat guna berbasis TIK, (2) telecenter berbentuk BUM Desa berbadan hukum sehingga berpeluang untuk memperoleh sumber keuangan yang berasal dari eksternal (swasta) maupun internal (dana desa) dan terakhir (3) sumber daya manusia telecenter harus melibatkan masyarakat desa asal agar dapat membantu efektivitas interaksi dan memastikan keberlanjutan adopsi TIK.

Background The digitization of health care and social welfare services creates many opportunities for the rehabilitation of incarcerated people and their preparation for release from prison. A range of digital platforms and technology solutions have been developed that offer multiple opportunities to handle private matters either by video conference, email, or some other digital format during imprisonment. However, incarcerated people have limited access to digital health care and social welfare services, and face challenges related to shortcomings in their digital skills and self-efficacy. Objective This article assessed the significance of incarcerated people’s self-efficacy in terms of their sense of control over the use of digital health care and social welfare services. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted using a questionnaire. Research data were collected from 11 prisons in different parts of Finland, and a total of 225 incarcerated people responded to the survey. Statistical analyses were conducted using the Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient, 2-tailed t test, linear regression analysis, and Hayes bootstrapping method. Results The results showed the significance of both general and internet-specific self-efficacy, which appear to be more important for the use of digital health care and social welfare services than factors related to a person’s socioeconomic background or sentence. Age was negatively correlated with perceived control over the use of digital health care and social welfare services. Furthermore, the study emphasized the importance of support from family and friends, as well as prison employees. Conclusions The digitalization of prisons offers many opportunities, but special consideration should be given to how the digitization of health care and social welfare services responds to the needs of incarcerated people in terms of their integration into society and the prevention of recidivism. During imprisonment, attention should be paid to strengthening the digital skills of incarcerated people, with support provided by prison employees. In addition to providing guidance on the use of individual digital services, the study recommends strengthening the general digital skills of incarcerated people, as well as developing their life management skills.
