The study aims to examine the livelihood of Sambalpuri handloom weavers of Western Odisha, India. By using the primary field survey data and analysing both the qualitative and quantitative data, it presents the socio-economic conditions of the weavers. A binary choice model is used to analyse the livelihood of weavers. The analysis shows that although the price of the product is quite high, almost all the weavers are not satisfied with the amount of the emoluments that they receive. The middleman plays a critical role in marketing. But the actual benefits from marketing the Sambalpuri handloom products are going to middleman rather than weavers. It recommends making necessary policies both by the central as well as the state governments to rescue these handloom weavers.

Monjulika Chakma's entrepreneurial foray with Bain Textile in 1965 within Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts marked more than just a business venture; it underscored the transformative capabilities of social entrepreneurship. Anchored on a vision to champion female weavers of the region, Chakma not only propelled the intricate art of traditional Chakma fabrics to prominence but also paved the way for socio-economic upliftment and cultural preservation. Despite humble beginnings and myriad challenges – from scarce weaving resources to the complexities of marketing in a geographically remote area – Chakma's resilience and adaptability catalyzed Bain Textile's ascent. This paper unravels Bain Textile's trajectory, highlighting its role in preserving Chakma heritage, engendering female empowerment, and fostering community development. Drawing upon Chakma's innovative strategies and collaborative ethos, the study underscores the imperative of tenacity, co-creation, and experimentation within the sphere of social entrepreneurship. Chakma's Bain Textile emerges not just as a business archetype but as a testament to entrepreneurship's potential as a conduit for societal change and cultural reverence

Sambalpuri Handloom has seen numerous ups and downs with cultural forces as it has travelled through Odisha's and India's socio-political history. We have seen how the product has evolved in response to these social shifts and patronage over history. Thanks to this ingenious invention, art and talent have lasted the ages. The Sambalpuri handloom is so exquisite and distinctive that, it has overcome the test of time and is in high demand all over the world. If we look forward, then there will be a need for brand promotion, strategic marketing network to ensure its global availability, contemporary design and look improvisation.However, the products of sambalpuri handloom are yet to be in the position they deserve due to lack of adequate promotional initiatives. When it comes to business, many of the weavers are unaware of what is required to be competitive in the national or global market. Poor infrastructure and, insufficient marketing put them in competition with more businesses (Sahu& Mishra, 2018). The present study is an attempt to examine the constraints and opportunities of Sambalpuri handloom since its origin and also offer suggestions to overcome the impediments in its journey to the global market.
