Objectives: Digital technologies in public health are primarily used in medical settings and mostly on an individual and passive way of use. There are research gaps on digital media facilitating participation, empowerment, community engagement, and participatory research in community settings. This scoping review aims to map existing literature on digital formats that enable participation in the field of health promotion and prevention in community settings.Design: The databases Medline, EMBASE, and PsycINFO were used to identify studies published from 2010 up to date (date of literature search) onward that used digital formats in all or in the main sequences of the process to enable high levels of participation in health promotion and prevention activities in community settings.Results: This review identified nine out of 11 included studies relevant to the research question. We found five studies that applied qualitative participatory research, two studies on peer support and one study each on empowerment and crowdsourcing. The digital technologies used varied widely and included social media platforms, bulletin boards, online forum webpages, and customized web providers and programs. Most studies mentioned anonymity, flexibility, and convenience as benefits of digital interventions. Some papers reported limitations such as difficulties by interpreting written-only data or the possibility of selection bias due to the digital divide.Conclusion: This scoping review identified only few studies relevant to our objective, indicating an existing gap in research on this topic. Digital formats were found to be particularly suitable for purposes where anonymity and flexibility are beneficial, such as for online peer exchange and peer support programs.

Este artículo explora cómo internet y las redes sociales pueden convertirse en el origen de conflictos en la esfera familiar. Se analiza la influencia de Internet en la convivencia familiar, examinando las preocupaciones y necesidades para educar en el ámbito digital. Se ha desarrollado un estudio cuantitativo no experimental empleando el método de encuesta. Participaron 1144 estudiantes de educación secundaria de la ciudad de A Coruña, todos ellos usuarios de internet y redes sociales. Un 76% de los encuestados manifiesta que sus padres no les prohíben nada cuando navegan por la red. Entre las principales acciones que los progenitores impiden realizar a sus hijos e hijas, se encuentran: realizar compras en línea, dar información personal y enviar correos a personas desconocidas. También se ha podido identificar que un 49% de los menores discute con sus padres por el uso de internet. Asimismo, se constata que las mujeres, frente a los hombres, son las que afirman que su familia se preocupa en mayor medida por el tipo de contenidos a los que acceden, así como por los contactos incluidos en sus redes sociales. Resulta necesario que padres y madres tomen conciencia de la importancia que supone educar a sus hijos/as en un uso responsable de la tecnología. En este sentido, adquirir una adecuada educación digital en el seno familiar resulta clave para minimizar conflictos, así como prevenir y tomar conciencia de los riesgos derivados de un uso inadecuado de internet y de las redes sociales. This article explores how the Internet and social networks can become the source of conflicts in the family sphere. The influence of the Internet on family life is analyzed, examining the concerns and needs when it comes to education in the digital world. A non-experimental quantitative study was carried out using the survey method. 1144 high school students from the city of A Coruña participated, all of them Internet and social media users. 76% of those surveyed state that their parents do not forbid them anything when they surf on the Net. The main actions that parents prevent their sons and daughters from doing include making online purchases, giving personal information and sending emails to strangers. It was also identified that 49% of minors argue with their parents about using the Internet. Likewise, it was found that women, in contrast to men, affirm that their family cares more about the type of content they access, as well as the contacts included on their social networks. It is necessary for parents to become aware of the importance of educating their children in a responsible use of technology. In this sense, acquiring adequate digital education within the family is key to minimizing conflicts, as well as preventing and becoming aware of the risks derived from an inappropriate use of the Internet and social networks.

The government’s effort to overcome the high rate of population growth is implementing a family planning program. However, limited access to family planning is undergone by poor population in very great numbers. One factor causing poor couples of childbearing age not to become a family planning acceptor is the limited sources or access to information related to the family planning program. This study aims to find out how poor couples of childbearing age accessed information related to family planning as an initial step to increase family planning acceptors in Yogyakarta. This study used a mixed research method, i.e. quantitative and qualitative designs. Quantitative design was carried out by distributing questionnaires to 368 poor couples of childbearing age selected by using simple random sampling. Qualitative design was carried out with in-depth interviews with six poor couples of childbearing age as well as focus group discussion (FGD) on family planning officers and companions of the Program Keluarga Harapan (PKH) which were selected purposively. The results of this study were analyzed descriptively and content analysis. The majority of poor couples of childbearing age obtained information on contraceptive methods and free family planning program from midwives in primary health care. Delivered information in the form of home visits was only obtained by 7.3% of respondents. The obstacle experienced by family planning officers and PKH companions in delivered family planning information was the assumption that many children have lots of fortune and certain belief factors that prohibit the use of contraception. There was a need for training on interesting educational methods to PKH companion and health cadres to be forwarded to childbearing couples and the existence of media for family planning education as a guide.
