Abstract: A helminthological examination was performed on 114 specimens of sciaenids that were captured on the Alvarado coast, Veracruz, Mexico, between August 2004 and July 2006. Bairdiella chrysoura (n = 15); Cynoscion arenarius (n = 31); Menticirrhus americanus (n = 16); Menticirrhus littoralis (n = 33) and Umbrina coroides (n = 19). 26 parasites were identified at the species, 12 genus and 5 family levels, as follows: 21 digeneans (14 adults and 7 metacercariae), 9 monogeneans, 7 nematodes (4 adults and 3 larvae), 2… Show more

“…However, the current information is interpreted as a confirmation that P. mirabilis (sensu stricto Kritsky et (1967)]. Previous records from other localities in the Gulf of Mexico (Bravo-Hollis, 1989;Mendoza-Garfias et al, 2017;Montoya-Mendoza et al, 2017), Caribbean Sea (Bravo-Hollis, 1989), South America (Boada et al, 2012;Vianna et al, 2020) and the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire (Wahl, 1972) could not be corroborated from existing material. Additional material that includes specimens for comparative morphological and molecular analyses must be collect in order to establish the limits of the distribution of P. mirabilis.…”

“…Several taxa of the genus Serrasentis were reported as parasites of 10 marine teleost species included in six families in Mexican waters from the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) (see for more details). For example, adult specimens of S. sagittifer have been reported from “cod” (Atlantic hake) and Umbrina coroides Cuvier, 1830 (Salgado-Maldonado 1978; Montoya-Mendoza et al 2019); juvenile specimens of S. sagittifer have been reported from Lutjanus campechanus (Poey, 1860) and Scorpaena mystes Jordan & Starks, 1895 (Montoya-Mendoza et al 2014, 2018); and specimens of S. sagittifer with unspecified life-cycle stage have been reported from Bagre marinus (Mitchill, 1815) and Micropogonias undulatus (Linnaeus, 1766) from the coasts of Veracruz, Mexico (Chávez-Lopez et al 1996; Salgado-Maldonado and Amin 2009; García-Prieto et al 2010). Adult specimens of S. sagittifer have been reported from Haemulon aurolineatum Cuvier, 1830 from the Yucatán Continental Shelf, Mexico (García-Teh 2020).…”
