Communication that Develops Teams: Healthy Ministry Team Dynamics as a Function of Consistent Leader Communication of Emotional Intelligence

Abstract: Excellent communication by emotionally intelligent leaders is key to ministry team health. Such communication has been noted to be the medium utilized to both motivate and develop either a subordinate or team. A leader can communicate successfully to their team and keep pace with their team’s development when utilizing the Communication Process Theory, or CPT. CPT is ideal as it first leads the individual, growing them naturally into the team and pacing relationship dynamics appropriately.

“…The legitimate power base can come into play in institutionally sanctioned decision-making when structures are designed to increase youth influence. In one case, a YPAR group of students of Color at a high school, in conjunction with their facilitating teacher, found racism and bias in discipline practices and (not so) random backpack searches, especially targeting boys of Color (Morales, 2019). The group's presentation and dissemination of findings led to several outcomes, including choosing one of the YPAR youth members to be a representative on the school's discipline committee, along with teachers and administrators.…”

“…The group's presentation and dissemination of findings led to several outcomes, including choosing one of the YPAR youth members to be a representative on the school's discipline committee, along with teachers and administrators. In addition, the YPAR research led to the implementation of a student advisory council (Morales, 2019). Ultimately, the administrators changed the way they conducted searches and improved their communication with students and parents about it.…”

“…The Momeny-Gourgues leadership influence field (see Figure 1), offers a comparable visual example of leader force propagation via vectors of positive influence and field development akin to the example of gravitational field theory (Momeny & Gourgues, 2020, p.12). In a sense, the Momeny-Gourgues field presents a unique reality well beyond that of other theories of leadership which acknowledge environmental variables, namely, the skills model of leadership (Mumford et al, 2000; Northouse, 2019).…”
