Communication and the Emergence of Collective Behavior in Living Organisms: A Quantum Approach

Abstract: Intermolecular interactions within living organisms have been found to occur not as individual independent events but as a part of a collective array of interconnected events. The problem of the emergence of this collective dynamics and of the correlated biocommunication therefore arises. In the present paper we review the proposals given within the paradigm of modern molecular biology and those given by some holistic approaches to biology. In recent times, the collective behavior of ensembles of microscopic u… Show more

“…We consider the induction of quantum coherent domains in the cytoplasm and/or vibrational macro-molecules in organelles, as instrumental in these processes. In this respect, we propose that the resonance with EM frequency wave patterns of coherent environmental matrices such as typical clayminerals, including intermolecular resonances of water molecules (Figure 7 A), might have had a non-trivial role as a prime organizational and ordering principle (see also Bischof and Del Giudice, 2013).…”

“…The cortical field is postulated to interact with quantum coherent waves generated by the biomolecules in neurons, which are suggested to propagate along the neuronal network (Bishof and Del Giudice, 2013). The idea of quantum coherent waves in the neuronal network derives from Fröhlich ( , 1969.…”

“…However, this mechanistic explanation is not sufficient to understand the internalization of the message induced by the ligand, since a mechanism of this type requires too much energy to induce a signal that travels all the way from the point of coupling with the ligand to the intracellular domain. This is because a mechanical signal induces multiple aimless movements, raising the entropy of the system, and dispersing the energy [20]. Moreover, such an activation mechanism would not be sufficiently specific and would lack the selectivity necessary to differentiate between the body's own antigens and foreign ones.…”
